The Wildhearts

The Wildhearts are an English rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1989 by singer and guitarist Ginger, who remains the one constant in a line-up that has changed many times. Their sound pairs hard rock with melodic pop, and the music press has often heard everything from the Beatles to 1980s-era Metallica in the mix.

They scored several top 20 singles and two top 10 albums in Britain, despite long feuds with their record company, East West, and internal struggles around drugs and depression. Ginger has split the band or put it on hold more than once, yet they keep returning. Start with Earth vs. The Wildhearts, then try P.H.U.Q., Fishing for Luckies and The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed. A 2018 anniversary tour led to Renaissance Men in 2019, and Satanic Rites of the Wildhearts followed in March 2025.
