Volume 8: The Threat Is Real
Volume 8: The Threat Is Real is Anthrax's eighth studio album, released on 21 July 1998 through Ignition Records. It followed Stomp 442 from 1995 and came five years before We've Come for You All. The band produced it themselves alongside Paul Crook, and it entered the Billboard 200 at number 118. The genre tags point to groove-leaning heavy metal rather than the pure thrash of their early days.
Singles included "Inside Out", "Piss N Vinegar" and "Born Again Idiot", while "Crush" found a second life in the PlayStation 2 game ATV Offroad Fury. The real emotional weight sits at the very end, in the hidden track "Pieces". Bassist Frank Bello wrote it for his brother Anthony, who was murdered in the Bronx in March 1996, and he sings it himself.
