W.A.S.P.

W.A.S.P. are an American heavy metal band who formed in Los Angeles in 1982 and became part of the early Sunset Strip scene of hard rock and glam metal. They built their name on a shock rock image, provocative lyrics and a rowdy stage show, and in the mid-1980s they found themselves in the sights of the Parents Music Resource Center, a fight they answered on "Harder, Faster" from the 1987 live album Live... in the Raw.

Their first two studio albums, W.A.S.P. (1984) and The Last Command (1985), both went gold in the US. Other records fans return to are The Headless Children (1989) and The Crimson Idol (1992). Songs such as "I Wanna Be Somebody", "L.O.V.E. Machine", "Wild Child" and "Chainsaw Charlie (Murders in the New Morgue)" remain staples, alongside covers of "I Don't Need No Doctor" and "The Real Me". The latest studio album is Golgotha, from 2015.
