Screaming Trees
Screaming Trees formed in Ellensburg, Washington, in 1984, with Mark Lanegan on vocals, brothers Gary Lee and Van Conner on guitar and bass, and Mark Pickerel on drums. Often counted among grunge's pioneers, they mixed in hard rock and psychedelic touches. They put out a run of records on independent labels through the 1980s, then signed to Epic Records in 1990.
Uncle Anesthesia arrived in 1991 and gave them their first charting single, "Bed of Roses". Barrett Martin took over drums, and 1992's Sweet Oblivion became their biggest record, led by "Nearly Lost You", which reached No. 5 on the Modern Rock Tracks Chart. Dust followed in 1996, with "All I Know" hitting No. 9 on both US rock charts. The band split in 2000, and their unfinished final album appeared in 2011 as Last Words.
