L7

L7 are an American punk rock band who formed in Los Angeles in 1985. They were active until 2001 and re-formed in 2014. The current line-up is Suzi Gardner and Donita Sparks on guitars and vocals, Dee Plakas on drums and backing vocals, and Janis Tanaka on bass. Their sound and image put them alongside the grunge scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, though they came before it and always sat slightly outside it, as they did with riot grrrl.

Their best-known records are Bricks Are Heavy, Smell the Magic and Hungry for Stink, alongside the self-titled debut from 1988. "Pretend We're Dead" got heavy alternative radio play in the United States and reached the Billboard Modern Rock top 10 in 1992. The band formed Rock for Choice in 1991 and have long backed political causes. A documentary, L7: Pretend We're Dead, premiered in 2016, and Scatter the Rats followed in 2019.
