L7's self-titled debut arrived in 1988 on Epitaph, the label that would also release its follow-up record's era of punk-minded peers. It is the first of seven studio albums the American band have made to date, a run that stretches from this record through to Scatter the Rats in 2019.

Filed under grunge, punk and rock, it catches the band at the very start of their story, before Smell the Magic arrived in 1990 and Bricks Are Heavy followed in 1992. For anyone who knows the later records, it is a useful look at where L7 began, and a good place to start if you want to hear the band's sound before the wider world caught up with them.
