The Pale Emperor is the ninth studio album by Marilyn Manson, released in 2015. Manson produced it with Tyler Bates, whom he met through their work on the TV series Californication. Together they stepped away from the band's usual industrial rock and built something sparser, leaning on blues rock. Gil Sharone, formerly of Stolen Babies and The Dillinger Escape Plan, played drums. Twiggy Ramirez, busy with his own projects, did not contribute. The record is dedicated to Manson's mother, who died of Alzheimer's disease while it was being made.

Critics responded warmly, with several calling it the band's best album in over a decade. It debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 and topped the Hard Rock Albums chart. "Deep Six" became the band's highest-peaking single on the Mainstream Rock Chart. Start with that track, then try "Third Day of a Seven Day Binge" and "Cupid Carries a Gun".
