Great White's self-titled album came out on 17 February 1984 through EMI America. It is the American band's first full-length record, though three of its tracks are re-recorded versions of songs from their earlier EP. In the group's discography it sits just after On Your Knees (The First LP), and ahead of Shot in the Dark.

What makes it worth hearing is how different it sounds from what followed. Here the band play a harder-driving, more metallic style, a long way from the blues-infused rock that later brought them success. EMI America judged the record a disaster and dropped the band, which prompted a rethink and a tamer hard rock sound on later albums. A 1999 reissue under the name Stick It, from the French label Axe Killer, adds five bonus tracks.
