Life of Agony
Life of Agony are an alternative metal band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 1989 by singer Keith Caputo, bassist Alan Robert and guitarist Joey Zampella, known as Joey Z. Caputo and Zampella are cousins. The band has gone through a number of drummers, but those three have remained its core. Their sound sits between alternative rock and heavy metal.
Their 1993 debut, River Runs Red, is the record most people start with, and Rolling Stone has named it one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Ugly followed in 1995 and Soul Searching Sun in 1997. The band split in 2002, reunited in 2003 and made Broken Valley in 2005. After another break, they returned in 2014 and released A Place Where There's No More Pain in 2017, then The Sound of Scars in 2019.
