The Warning
The Warning is the debut studio album from Queensrÿche, the American band who would later become closely associated with progressive metal. It came out in 1984, and it was reissued on 6 May 2003 with three bonus tracks.
Here the band are at an early stage, playing straight-ahead heavy metal rather than the more adventurous material that followed on later records. The lyrics turn to mysticism and the occult. None of the singles charted in the United States, though the album did moderately well there, and "Take Hold of the Flame" found a wider audience abroad, particularly in Japan. It's a good place to hear where the band began before the experiments started, and in 2019 Metal Hammer placed it 13th on its list of the best power metal albums of all time.
