Mr. Big
Mr. Big's self-titled debut arrived in June 1989 on Atlantic, with Kevin Elson producing. It finds the American band blending hard rock with a pop sensibility, and it opens with "Addicted to that Rush", a showcase for the aggressive guitar and bass playing that set the group apart. The single reached No. 39 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, while the album climbed to No. 46 on the Billboard 200.
It is the first of the band's ten studio albums, and Lean Into It followed in 1991. There are some nice details in the track list too: "30 Days in the Hole" is a cover of a Humble Pie song from 1972's Smokin', and bassist Billy Sheehan has said "Wind Me Up" is based on Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" played backwards. Several of these songs became live staples, so it is a good place to hear where it all began.
