Hymns From the Apocrypha
Hymns From the Apocrypha is the ninth studio album by Suffocation, the American death metal band whose catalogue stretches back to Effigy of the Forgotten in 1991. It came out on 3 November 2023 through Nuclear Blast Records, following …of the Dark Light from 2017, and it sits firmly in the technical and brutal ends of the genre.
The record marks a changing of the guard. It is the first Suffocation album to feature vocalist Ricky Myers, who also plays drums in the death metal band Disgorge, and the last to feature Eric Morotti behind the kit. For anyone who has followed the band from the early 1990s through to Blood Oath and Pinnacle of Bedlam, it is worth hearing to see how the group sounds with a new voice up front.
