Gallus
Gallus is the second album from Gun, the Scottish hard rock band, released on 30 March 1992. It follows their 1989 debut, Taking On the World, and came two years before Swagger, so it sits right at the point where the band was finding its feet. The cover carries a portrait of Benny Lynch, the Glasgow boxer who found international fame in the ring and remained a well-known name long after his death in August 1946. It's a very Scottish choice of image for a record named with a Scots word.
The album did well at home, peaking at No. 14 on the UK albums chart. Three singles came from it: "Higher Ground" reached No. 48, "Steal Your Fire" got to No. 24, and "Welcome to the Real World" climbed to No. 43. If you want to hear where Gun's hard rock first found a wider audience, this is the place to start.
