Rancid
Rancid formed in Berkeley, California, in 1991, when Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, both formerly of Operation Ivy, started the band with drummer Brett Reed. Lars Frederiksen joined on guitar and vocals after the first album, and Branden Steineckert took over the drums in 2006. Armstrong and Freeman have been there throughout. Their sound runs through punk rock, street punk and ska punk, and they are often grouped with Green Day and the Offspring as part of the mid-1990s punk revival in America.
Let's Go, from 1994, brought them wider attention thanks to "Salvation". The following year's ...And Out Come the Wolves is the one to start with: it holds "Roots Radicals", "Ruby Soho" and "Time Bomb", and sold over a million copies in the US. Life Won't Wait (1998) and Indestructible (2003) are also among their best-loved records. Tomorrow Never Comes, their tenth album, arrived in 2023.
