Audioslave
Audioslave were an American rock supergroup formed in Glendale, California, in 2001. They paired Chris Cornell, the singer and guitarist from Soundgarden, with three members of Rage Against the Machine: guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk.
Early critics heard them as Soundgarden meeting Rage Against the Machine, but by their second album, Out of Exile, they had clearly found a voice of their own. The sound blended 1970s hard rock with 1990s alternative rock, with touches of 1960s funk, soul and R&B. Everything was made with just guitars, bass, drums and vocals, leaving room for Cornell's wide range and Morello's unorthodox solos. Start with Audioslave (2002), Out of Exile (2005) and Revelations (2006). They split in February 2007, after three Grammy nominations and more than eight million records sold.
