The Red in the Sky Is Ours
The Red in the Sky Is Ours is the debut studio album from At the Gates, the Swedish band who would become central to melodic death metal. It came out on 27 July 1992 on Grind Core, and it sits right at the start of a run of records that continued with With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness in 1993, Terminal Spirit Disease in 1994 and Slaughter of the Soul in 1995.
It is the place to hear the band before those later albums, with their sound already placed between death metal and its more melodic side. The record has been given more than one second life: it was reissued in 1993 alongside With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness, and again in 2003 with bonus tracks. That makes it easy to find for anyone wanting to trace how At the Gates began.
