Gardens of Grief
Gardens of Grief is an EP by At the Gates, released in 1991. It comes from the very start of the Gothenburg band's career, only a year after they formed in 1990, and it sits in the genres of melodic death metal and death metal.
It arrived before any of their albums, with The Red in the Sky Is Ours following in 1992. That makes it a useful early marker for a band that went on to help shape the Gothenburg sound alongside Dark Tranquillity and In Flames, and that later reached a landmark with Slaughter of the Soul in 1995. For anyone tracing how the group developed, this is where the story begins.
