Get the Funk Out
Get the Funk Out is an EP from Extreme, released in 1990 on A&M Records. It takes its name from the song that was the second single from the band's second studio album, Extreme II: Pornograffitti (1990), and it sits in the story of the American group's breakthrough period, after their self-titled debut of 1989.
The title track features backing vocals from Canadian rock musician Pat Travers, and its video was directed by Andy Morahan. The main draw is Nuno Bettencourt's guitar solo, which Queen's Brian May singled out for praise, saying that if it didn't bring tears to a guitarist's eyes, he didn't know where things were, and calling it a landmark in rock history. For anyone exploring the band's funk-flavoured glam metal side, it's a handy, concentrated way in.
