The Long Goodbye
The Long Goodbye is Candlebox's eighth studio album, released on 25 August 2023 through Round Hill Records. It follows Wolves in 2021 and sits in a catalogue that stretches back to their self-titled debut in 1993. The band is usually filed under alternative rock and post-grunge, and this record was framed from the start as a farewell, with a tour planned after which the group intended to break up.
The lead single, "Punks", is a warning to younger bands about how fickle the music industry can be. Vocalist Kevin Martin pointed to a lack of industry support and the high cost of touring as reasons for calling time. That context gives the album a reflective edge worth hearing. In July 2024 it returned on streaming as A Little Longer Goodbye (Tour Edition), adding three bonus tracks from the CD and LP editions plus two new live recordings, ahead of dates supporting Bush.
