Accept
Accept's self-titled debut is where the German heavy metal band's story begins. It was recorded in 1978 and came out on 16 January 1979. Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann has described it as a gathering of songs the band had been playing through their early years, a mixture of styles with no real focus. He recalls it selling around 3,000 copies.
It was not a record the band themselves were fully happy with. Vocalist Udo Dirkschneider remembered the thrill of a first studio session alongside a sense of disappointment. Better production and a more cohesive direction came with later albums, yet this first step won Accept their first shows in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. For anyone tracing how they developed, it is a useful starting point. Therion later covered "Seawinds" on Crowning of Atlantis, in 1999.
