The Calling
The Calling are an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 1996 by singer and guitarist Alex Band and guitarist Aaron Kamin. Their sound is melodic, radio-friendly guitar rock, and it found its biggest audience in the early 2000s. Band is the only original member left after several line-up changes.
They are best known for "Wherever You Will Go", which spent 23 weeks at number one on the US Billboard Adult Top 40, the second longest run in that chart's history. It came ahead of their 2001 debut, Camino Palmero. Critics were generally unkind to both song and album, though the single was later named the chart's number-one song of the 2000s. The follow-up, Two (2004), was led by "Our Lives", which was used in the closing ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Olympics and opened the 78th Academy Awards. The band split the following year, then reformed in 2016 after an attempt in 2013 failed. A new album, Before the World Turns to Dust, is due in 2026.
