Skunk Anansie

Skunk Anansie are a British rock band led by Skin on vocals and guitar, with Cass on bass and guitar, Ace on guitar and Mark Richardson on drums. They formed in 1994, split in 2001 and came back together in 2009. The name comes from the Akan folk tales of Anansi the spider-man of Ghana, with "Skunk" added to make it sound nastier.

They are usually filed under Britrock, a harder-edged alternative to the Britpop of their early years. Their first three albums, Paranoid & Sunburnt (1995), Stoosh (1996) and Post Orgasmic Chill (1999), remain the best places to start, with Stoosh the one listeners return to most. Singles such as "Charity", "Hedonism", "Selling Jesus" and "Weak" show what they do: heavy guitars and a big, commanding voice. Since reforming they have made four more albums, most recently The Painful Truth in 2025.
