It’s Alive
It's Alive is the Ramones' first live album, a double LP released on Sire Records. It was recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London on New Year's Eve 1977, during a UK tour on which four shows were taped. That night won out because the crowd was so wild that ten rows of seats ended up thrown at the stage once the band had finished.
The set draws on their first three studio albums: Ramones, Leave Home and Rocket to Russia. It arrived in the UK and Europe on 1 June 1979, and it catches the band when their craft was razor sharp, with Tommy Ramone describing their sound as the essence of rock 'n' roll. Balloons and "Gabba gabba hey" signs added to the party atmosphere. The album and concert are often cited as the band at their live peak, which makes this a fine place to hear them at full speed.
