Dawn is Danger Danger's third album in order of release, arriving in 1995, though it wasn't the third to be recorded. It stepped in for Cockroach, which had been scheduled for 1993 until Ted Poley took legal action and stopped it coming out. Cockroach eventually surfaced in 2001, so Dawn fills an odd gap in the band's story.

The record marks a real change of direction in sound, lyrics and image from the first two albums. Bruno Ravel plays guitar as well as bass here, and Scott Brown, who had worked with Paul Laine as a solo artist, took the bass role on the tour without playing on the record. If you like hard rock from the mid-1990s, it makes an interesting companion to Warrant's Ultraphobic, released the same year, and shows a band reshaping itself rather than repeating the formula.
